This year marks two decades since Maggie bought her beautiful, historic home in Broome, WA, and yet, the events that unfolded there are stamped on her mind – and heart.

One night, in 2003, Maggie was up late with her sick toddler, frantically trying to coax him into taking medicine to lower his raging fever.

Finally, he accepted and went to sleep. Exhausted, Maggie took the opportunity to go to the bathroom.

Looking into the mirror, she gasped in shock …

On this week’s episode of The Ghost Files podcast Maggie, our guest, takes us back to that unforgettable moment.

Interestingly, though what she saw in the bathroom startled her into making a quick exit, Maggie soon realised her visitor was extending kindness beyond the veil.

Other experiences confirmed the presence was supportive and comforting. You could say Maggie’s home was haunted by love.

Listening to Maggie’s captivating story got me thinking about the four kinds of apparitions identified by parapsychologists and other experts in the field.

There’s your classic ghost, the earthbound spirit who hasn’t realised she/he has passed; the sentient spirit, who’s crossed over but returns will; the imprint, or replay, where an event plays like a movie on repeat in certain locations; and lastly, there’s the crisis apparition’, where a living person projects their spirit to a loved one, usually to say goodbye in the seconds before death.

Maggie’s ghost was the second kind – a sentient spirit whose experience resonated with her.

Today, Maggie no longer lives in the lovely home built by a master pearler in 1919, but she remembers it fondly because even though that stage of her life carried challenges, there was a friendly presence by her side to help her through it.
