Since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry jetted off sunny California, there has been constant speculation as to when the couple will visit the UK.

But in a damning statement, the Duke of Sussex has said he will “not bring” his wife back to his birth country, at least for the foreseeable future.

In an appearance on the ITV documentary Tabloids on Trial, the father-of-two spoke about his fight against the British tabloids alongside other celebrities such as Charlotte Church and Hugh Grant.

In it, he slammed the press for generating negative and untrue headlines, all of which collectively resulted in the Sussex’s decision to step back as working members of the royal family in 2020.

Speaking candidly to the camera, the 39-year-old opened up about the retaliation he and his family faced when he decided to take legal action against the British press.

When quizzed about whether his high-profile legal battle had been worth it, considering the legal trial also garnered significant media attention, the royal seemed defeated in his response.

“There is more than enough attention on me and my wife. They pushed me too far,” he said.

“It got to the point where you’re damned if you do, you’re damned if you don’t,” he added.

Traditionally, the royal family has kept stoic and silent when it comes to what the press writes about them – something Prince Harry has had enough of.

In the rare interview, he also added that ongoing negative and invasive headlines were “dangerous” and of “genuine concern” to him and his family.

“All it takes is one lone actor, one person who reads this stuff, to act on what they have read….and whether it’s a knife or acid, whatever it is. And these are things that are a genuine concern for me.”

While Harry has returned to the UK several times in the last four years, his wife has not been since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022.

Earlier that same year in June, Princess Lilibet visited her ancestral homeland for the first (and only time) as part of her great-grandmother’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

While she was born in Santa Barbara, her older brother Prince Archie was born in England and spent the first year of his life at Frogmore Cottage.

He then relocated to America with his parents in March 2020, returning to the UK just once for the Diamond Jubilee.

Previously, Harry has revealed that it is just “not possible to keep them safe” if he were to bring his children across the pond more frequently, especially after losing his security access.

It remains to be seen if the family of four will attend the Birmingham Invictus Games in 2027.
