Meghan Markle was given her first taste of royal life as she joined fiancé Prince William for their first joint public appearance as an engaged couple.
Thousands of well-wishers gathered in the streets of Nottingham, England to catch a glimpse of the happy couple ahead of a visit to a World Aids Day charity fair hosted by the Terrence Higgins Trust.
One cheeky member of the public shouted to Prince Harry: “How does it feel being a ginger with Meghan?”
“It’s great isn’t it?” The prince replied.
The besotted couple shared countless handshakes, high-fives, hugs and took presents including bags of Haribo sweets – Harry’s favourites – from the excited crowd.
And the 36 year old Suits actress appeared to be taking everything in her stride, at one point stating: ‘I’m so happy,’ adding: ‘It’s just such a thrill to be here. I can’t believe it’.
And the American star looked stylish as ever, choosing to carry a bag by Scottish label, Strathberry, which has already sold out online.
Wrapped up in a long navy coat by Mackage – a brand also favoured by actresses Gwyneth Paltrow, Halle Berry, Eva Mendes and Blake Lively, Meghan wore the coat over a beige cotton, full midi skirt from British-based fashion label Joseph, which also sold out on the brand’s website.
Earlier in the week, the couple’s spokesman said Ms Markle would not be continuing her work on gender with the United Nations or with other organisations and instead would start new charity work as a full-time royal.
Mr Knauf said she planned to focus her attention on the UK and Commonwealth.
“This is the country that’s going to be her home now and that means travelling around, getting to know the towns and cities and smaller communities,” he said.
After the walkabout – in which the couple split up in order to speak to as many people as possible – Harry and Meghan went to the Nottingham Contemporary Exhibition Centre for an event to mark World Aids Day.
