The Block is set to return for a mammoth 20th season in 2024 and fans are beside themselves with excitement to watch five new teams get stuck into renovating.

This year, the beloved reality show is heading to the luxury location of Phillip Island on Victoria’s Bass Coast, a popular tourist destination located just 90 minutes away from the Melbourne CBD.

Across several months, the blockheads will be tasked with renovating a former island resort into five luxury family homes, all in the hopes of taking home a pretty payday in profit and the $100,000 that is awarded to the winning team.

Courtney (32) and Grant (29)

Married couple from NSW

After being married for three years, this Sydney-based couple decided now was the perfect time to apply for The Block!

“We don’t have kids, so I feel like this is a really good time. We want to go into it with a positive attitude and have fun,” says Courtney.

After building and styling their dream home from scratch, the husband and wife have some experience behind them. Paired with their professional experience in design and landscaping, we are certain they will be a formidable team when it comes to skill sets!

They say audiences can expect to see them use a ‘Mod-iterranean’ style when renovating their home, a modern take on the traditional Mediterranean style that has been popular in Australia for decades.

Jesse (29) and Paige (27)

Engaged couple from WA

According to realestate.com, Perth-based couple Jesse (a carpenter) and Paige (a claims specialist) made no effort to hide their casting on The Block after posting to a local community Facebook group that they were looking for tradies when filming started in February of this year.

They also kept busy snapping selfies with several excited locals during production as they shopped at local businesses to outfit their home.

Sadly, it is heavily rumoured that the young couple dramatically quit the season midway through – a storyline that we are sure will unfold on-screen!

With no renovation experience behind them, the couple said ahead of filming they would stay open-minded and ready to learn on the job.

“In terms of design, we don’t want to get too stuck in a box just yet,” Paige says.

“We want to see the place and get a vibe for the Island and go from there.”

Her partner Jesse says as well as soaking up The Block for all that it is, he’s also looking forward to making “really good friends” – how heartwarming!

Khristian (31) and Mimi (28)

Newlyweds from SA

No strangers to the spotlight, the lovebirds are the most notable team to participate in The Block this year after videos shared to TikTok of their 2023 wedding in Adelaide went viral worldwide.

Speaking with Yahoo Lifestyle earlier this year, an insider source revealed that the couple (an electrician and restaurant manager by trade) were potential “villains” in the upcoming series.

“The feeling is that we have bought some serious dynamite with these two, and we are just waiting for an explosion,” they told the publication

The same source added that despite being early on in filming, Channel Nine “couldn’t be happier” with their casting.

While their renovation experience is limited to their own home, they say their renovation style is “modern contemporary”, something they would like to continue on The Block.

“We like lots of different textures, different textured ceilings. I think we will surprise everyone,” says Kristian.

Mimi also says that while in life she and her husband “are completely different people”, when it came to renovating their home they “agreed on everything.”

“Hopefully, with all the elements on The Block we will be able to work as a team and do well,” she says.

Kylie (37) and Brad (32)

Married parents from QLD

The lovebirds quickly became favourites among Phillip Island locals after they made continual efforts during filming to purchase their goods on the island, rather than head to the big-name stores on the mainland.

With a wealth of experience behind them as an electrician and plumber for Brad and hairdresser and business owner Kylie, we are sure this Cairns-based team will be one to watch as the competition progresses.

While she hasn’t got any renovation experience up her sleeve, Kylie says she will “have a go at everything” The Block throws her way. Her husband in comparison has a background as an electrician and plumber – skills that will no doubt come in handy this season.

“It’s something we have always watched, and thought we could do, so why not give it a crack?” Brad says.

Ricky (34) and Haydn (37)

Best mates from VIC

During filming, reports emerged that these firm friends from Victoria would serve as the loveable larrikins of the series, following in the footsteps of Eliza and Liberty in 2023.

The boys, who are a plumber and IT worker by occupation, say they are most excited about making new friends from their time on The Block.

“We bring out the best in people,” says Ricky.

“We are all about making sure people enjoy their time and moments because that is what life is about.”

As well as renovating his apartment before, Ricky also owns his own electrician business and is used to working and managing a team.

As for Haydn, what he lacks in experience he makes up for in enthusiasm: “We know how to help each other through thick and thin, the good times and the bad,” he shares.
