Shock-jock Kyle Sandilands is facing a wave of criticism after making a series of offensive comments on air last week.

In the segment, the 48-year-old called the Virgin Mary a ‘liar’ who got knocked up ‘behind a camel shed.’

The comments angered Christian and Muslim groups, and today protesters from both faiths gathered outside Sydney’s KIIS FM studios, demanding the 48-year-old be fired.

“I thought Mary was his (Jesus’) girlfriend but apparently it was the mother,” he said.

“And the mother lied obviously and told everyone, ‘Nah I got pregnant by a magical ghost’. Bulls**t.”

He also called anyone who believed in the Bible story “dumb”.

“You might believe everything that was written down 2000 years ago to be absolutely accurate. Good on you, you’re dumb. Dumb as dog s**t,” he said.

According to news.com.au, a member of the Christian Lives Matter group on Facebook posted a video from Lebanon condemning Sandilands for his comments.

“You offended Christians, Muslims, people of faith. You called the mother of our lord, Jesus Christ, names. You accused her of having sex,” he said.

“You offended many, many people today, and we’re not going to let this go.”

In addition, thousands of people joined an online petition calling for Kyle to be taken off the radio.

“A man like Kyle does not deserve any airtime on Australia’s ‘number one’ FM radio station,” the petition states, according to news.com.au.

“Regardless of your disbelief and atheism, you have offended two of the largest religions in the world.

“Enough is enough, this is the last time we will allow a mockery of our faith.”

Kyle has since apologized for the comments, telling The Daily Telegraph on Friday, “I’m sorry if I offended anyone with my comments.”

“Everyone is entitled to their own religious beliefs, and I’m fully supportive of that right.”

However, protesters are still calling for him to be sacked.

news.com.au reported that those gathered outside KIIS FM studios in Ryde today conducted a peaceful protest and recited the Hail Mary prayer.

Kyle and Jackie O were not in the building at the time, as they have taken time off during the non-ratings period.
