I love my kitchen, but my gas oven leaves something to be desired. It’s just… a tad outdated. So, I find myself forgoing roast and baked dinners for stove-top meals almost every night. That was until I got the chance to review the Sunbeam Multi Zone Air Fryer Oven.
Having never used an air fryer before, I was unsure of what to expect. However, consider my non-existent expectations surpassed. As soon as I removed the packaging, I knew that the dual size was perfect for my housemate and I – who both enjoy large portions of our nightly dinners.
The air fryer came with two baskets, two air flow trays, two small roasting trays, one large roasting tray, one large air flow tray, a basket handle, and a removable centre wall.
After oohing and aahing over all the different components, we placed the extra trays in the handy storage compartment in the bottom of the air fryer. Then we got to work preparing our eggplant parmigiana.
Plugging the air fryer in, the digital touch-screen lit up like a halo to help streamline the cooking process. With pre-programmed settings, it was intuitive enough even for me (who admittedly isn’t the best in the kitchen).
Hungry after work, we watched through the screen eagerly as the cheese on our parmis melted and our potatoes turned golden. Impatient as we were, the rapid air technology meant it only took about 10 minutes before we were plating up.
The result, you ask? Delicious.
With cleanup the part of the night we both dread, we returned to the kitchen and were ready to groan throughout the entire process.
But after putting the trays in the dishwasher, there wasn’t much left to do other than wiping the inside of the oven once it was cool. That’s the other thing, this air fryer has automatic shut-off and overheat protection safety features – which is perfect for a certain forgetful housemate.
The one thing we struggled with was storage. It’s not that the air fryer is massive, actually it’s quite compact for what it offers, but we live in a small apartment and have limited counter and cupboard space.
After some rearranging, we managed to squeeze the machine into a corner. The good news is that storage drawer makes it sooo much easier to keep the bits and bobs together in one place.
Final thoughts on the air fryer? Life-changing, incredible, spectacular, never to use our gas oven again
