Cody Simpson is having a blockbuster year after winning The Masked Singer and having a sizzling new romance with Miley Cyrus.

And the 22-year-old Australian singer’s mum Angie Simpson is incredibly proud of her celebrity son. Speaking exclusively to New Idea, Angie has spilled on her secret bond with Miley and their plans to merge into one big happy family.
“I have been lucky enough to have known Miley and her family for a few years now, through … Cody and Alli [his sister] worked on a few branding campaigns in the USA with Miley’s sister Noah,” Angie says.
“I travelled around a bit with her mother Tish and our girls together. We hit it off back then and have been friends ever since. Truly humble people. I am heading over to see them soon again in LA!”
Gold Coast-based Angie has been keeping busy with her famous children Cody and Alli, 21, as well as her 15-year-old son, Tom.
Parenting can be difficult at the best of times, but Angie reveals she’s always had a very special bond with her kids.
“Codes and I have an awesome bond; we are as close as a mother and son could be. Brad also has a very special bond with him. Our parenting style of talking to our kids as we would an adult from a young age has helped,” Angie explains.
“[Cody] has always spoken to us about everything – almost too much information. We never judged or criticised him when he talked to us about concerns, we just listen and give advice and tell stories of our childhood.”
There has been a spotlight on Cody recently thanks to his blossoming relationship with mega-famous Miley, who only just split with ex Liam Hemsworth. However, Angie says her son – who was scouted via YouTube in 2009 – is coping with it very well.
“Codes has been in the industry since he was 14 so this isn’t new to him,” Angie says. “We really stuck by Cody and Alli to keep them humble and grounded, and to use their growing audience and voice for good not evil.”
The Simpsons are also still reeling from the secrecy of The Masked Singer – which Angie admits was tough to keep under wraps. “This was so hard to do, but Cody was under a very strict contract so we could not take any risks,” says Angie.
“Especially hard not to tell friends and close family, but in the end it was great to see everyone’s reactions!”
