Michael Schumacher’s daughter has publically spoken, urging her father to ‘keep fighting’.
The Formula 1 star suffered devastating head injuries during a skiing accident in the Alps in 2013 and has since been unable to walk or talk.
Taking to Instagram, Gina Schumacher, 20, made an emotional announcement.
There is only one happiness in this life, to love and be loved #naturephotography #natureforsoul #keepfighting,” she captioned a pictures of herself horse-riding next to a lake.
The Instagram post marks one of the rare occasions in which Schumacher’s notoriously private family have publicly referred to his condition.
Considered one of the greatest drivers in Formula 1 history, Schumacher is still recuperating from the severe head injuries he sustained in the accident.
Michael’s wife Gina Successfully sued three German tabloids – Bunte, Freizeit Revue and Freizeit Spaß over reports that he has had begun to speak again and was undergoing specially-designed therapy.
And earlier this month she reiterated their right to privacy as her husband continues on his long road to recovery.
In statement, she told reporters: “The decision to protect his privacy from the public has been taken in Michael’s interest.
“We have made it very clear that something serious has happened.”
Following the devastating accident – which occurred whilst he was holidaying with his family and saw him hit his head on a rock after tumbling 34 feet down a mountain – the seven time world champion was airlifted from the slopes with catastrophic brain injuries and was placed in a medically induced coma.
Schumacher was given round-the-clock intensive care at Grenoble University Hospital at the foot of the French Alps.
In June 2014 his longtime manager Sabine Kehm announced that he was no longer in a coma as he was moved to a hospital in Lausanne near his home in Switzerland.
In September 2014 the F1 legend returned home to continue rehabilitation for extensive head injuries.
“Considering the severe head injuries he suffered, progress has been made in the past weeks and months. There is still, however, a long and difficult road ahead,” a statement read at the time.
